Prior Learning Assessment (PLA)

The College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) is a series of standardized tests offered by the College Board that will allow you to demonstrate your college-level knowledge. CLEP exams cover introductory-level college subjects, such as history, mathematics, science, and languages. Atlantic Cape accepts many CLEP exam scores. To verify that we accept your current CLEP scores or to confirm that we accept an exam you would like to take, email transcripts@atlanticcape.edu.

DANTES Subject Standardized Test (DSST) is a computer-based exam that allows you to validate your college-level knowledge. DSST exams are recommended for credit by the American Council on Education (ACE). There are over 30 exams in various subjects. Visit the DSST website for more information on available tests. To verify that we accept your current DSST test scores or to confirm that we accept a test you would like to take, email transcripts@atlanticcape.edu.

If you’ve served in the military, you may be eligible for college credit for training you completed during service. We use recommendations from the American Council on Education (ACE) to evaluate your Joint Services Transcript (JST). Request your JST online and email it to transcripts@atlanticcape.edu.

Graduates of a New Jersey Police Academy may be eligible for up to 18 credits toward the Criminal Justice A.S. degree. Graduates of a New Jersey Corrections Academy may qualify for up to 10 credits toward the Criminal Justice, A.S. degree.  Students must enroll in the Criminal Justice, A.S. degree program and submit a copy of their Police Academy Certificate or proof of completion. Atlantic Cape provides credit for many professional certifications. We define certifications as “The formal attestation or confirmation by a third party that requirements (such as industry standards or professional qualifications) have been met.” Some examples of certifications accepted by Atlantic Cape are (but not limited to):

We recognize the college-level knowledge often gained through professional licensing. We define a professional license as “the formal process that may be a state, government, or licensing entity that establishes standards of practice and will grant legal permission for an individual to practice a specific profession.” Some examples of professional licenses accepted by Atlantic Cape are (but not limited to):

• FAA Commercial Pilot License
• Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
• New Jersey Corrections Officer (NJDFS)
• New Jersey Real Estate Licenses (Salesperson, Broker-Salesperson, Broker, and Referral
  Agent)
• New Jersey Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Nursing (RN)
• Police Training Commission (PTC)
